Sen. Booker Announces Presidential Bid

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) chose today, the first day of Black History Month, to make his long-anticipated announcement that he is running for president. He joins a growing list of candidates for the 2020 Democratic nomination.

The former Newark mayor, now serving his second term in the U.S. Senate, will also be on the 2020 ballot in New Jersey for a third Senate term. Gov. Phil Murphy recently signed special legislation designed to enable Booker to run for president and the U.S. Senate simultaneously, so he would not have to sacrifice his certain re-election to the Senate in order to run for president.
