Underdog Ciattarelli Bests Guadagno in Union, N.J., GOP Race Becoming Competitive

UNION, N.J. – Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli (R-16) won the support of the Union County GOP, defeating Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno 113-92. Coming from neighboring Somerset County which borders Union gave Ciattarelli an edge.

Union combined with wins in Mercer and his home county, plus Burlington and a surprise majority in the Middlesex screening, Ciattarelli is putting up a strong fight to Guadagno, who has notched victories in vote-rich Ocean, her own home county of Monmouth, and Cumberland.

Throughout the evening, it was clear the vote would be quite close. Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz of Summit (R-21) issued a strong endorsement of Guadagno in nominating her, while her running mates Senator Tom Kean (R-21) and Assemblyman Jon Bramnick (R-21) appeared to take a more neutral stance.
