Influential Policymakers Scheduled to Speak at CUNA GAC

WASHINGTON – With this year’s CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) less than a week away, a number of key policymakers have been confirmed to address the more than 5,000 credit union leaders in attendance. “CUNA GAC is the credit union movement’s most important advocacy event, and this year is no exception,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear directly from policymakers that are instrumental in shaping financial services legislation.”

Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), chair of the Senate Banking Committee, will speak, as well as Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.).

Representatives that have been confirmed so far include:

  • Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), chair of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Blaine Lutkemeyer, (R-Mo.), chair of the House Financial subcommittee on financial institution and consumer credit;
  • Rep. Denny Heck (D-Wash.) a member of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.), a member of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.), a member of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee; and
  • Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

In addition, Tracie Kenyon, president/CEO of the Montana Credit Union Network, will moderate a panel discussion with Reps. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) and Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.). The panel will discuss the importance of credit union political activity in close elections.
