NJ CU Advocates Meet with Mikie Sherrill, 11th District Candidate for Congress

Yesterday, Mikie Sherrill, the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 11th District, took time from her busy campaign schedule to meet with credit union leaders at the New Jersey Credit Union League’s office.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to both get to know her and brief her on our federal legislative issues and concerns, and better acquaint her with the credit unions in the district. Issues discussed included the credit union tax status, ADA Web site compliance, commonsense regulatory relief and the need to address the ongoing problem of merchant data breaches.

After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994, Sherrill spent almost 10 years on active duty. She flew missions throughout Europe and the Middle East as a helicopter pilot. She worked on the Battle Watch Floor in the European Theater during the Iraq invasion, and served as a flag aide to the deputy commander in chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. She also served as a Russian policy officer, worked on the implementation of our nuclear treaty obligations and oversaw the relationship between the U.S. Navy and Russian Federation Navy.

After leaving the Navy in 2003, Sherrill earned a law degree and eventually joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey.

Sherrill has a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Naval Academy, a master’s degree in global history from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a law degree from Georgetown University.

The League is also scheduling a meeting with the Republican candidate in the district, Assemblyman Jay Webber.
