...Foster Community Financial Literacy

With powerful partnerships between the New Jersey Credit Union Foundation and the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education on the local level as well as those with the National Credit Union Foundation and the Credit Union National Association, NJCUL gives its member credit unions opportunities to get trained and certified on financial counseling (at a discounted price), to reach members of the community (and potential members of the credit union) through the popular Reality Fairs program variousNew Jersey Coalition for Financial Education programs. All this raises the awareness of credit union throughout the state. 



The New Jersey Credit Union Foundation provides financial literacy, technical assistance to small credit unions, professional development opportunities, and support for philanthropic activities in connection with New Jersey and the New Jersey credit union movement, including grants to off-set the cost of the Reality Fair program. Reality Fairs
The popular hands-on, statewide financial literacy program maintained and managed by the Foundation and the League, the Reality Fair Program is available to member credit unions to build and/or strengthen relationships with schools and local communities. It’s an impactful philanthropic tool that demonstrates credit unions’ commitment to financial literacy. The award-winning program has reached over 11,500 students throughout that state since its launch in 2010. The program has been recognized by the National Youth Involvement Board (NYIB) for the most students reached by a team in its asset category for two consecutive years. 

Partnership with the NJCFE
Through the Foundation, New Jersey credit unions have partnered with the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education (NJCFE) to improve the personal financial literacy of New Jersey’s citizens by promoting the teaching of personal finance to people of all ages. The partnership offers support to the Coalition’s teacher trainings, financial literacy symposium, educational webinars, and more.

NJCUL offers the Financial Certification Program (FiCEP) to member credit unions at a discounted price through a partnership with CUNA and the National Credit Union Foundation. The program provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to guide members to financial security. Students receive a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) designation upon completion.
