Gov. Murphy to Chair DGA During 2020 Presidential Election

The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) has announced Gov. Phil Murphy as its pick to chair the nationwide association for 2020, clearing the way for the state to be in the national spotlight ahead of the presidential elections that year.

Murphy will serve as vice chair of the DGA for 2019, under the chairmanship of Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo.

Former Gov. Chris Christie assumed the role of chair of the Republican Governors Association (RGA) in 2014, where he helped the RGA raise more $100 million. In the following year and a half, Christie spent over 100 days campaigning out of state for his unsuccessful presidential bid in the 2016 election.

Murphy said he has no presidential aspirations.
