Hearings This Week on CFPB, Affordable Housing, Student Loan Servicing, Small Business Lending

The House and Senate are in session this week holding a number of hearings on issues of interest to credit unions, including the CFPB, affordable housing, student loan servicing and small business lending.

On Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee will meet (10:00 a.m.) to mark-up its FY2020 budget views and estimates, and a House Appropriations sub-committee will hold a hearing (10:30 a.m.) to discuss loan servicing oversight, specifically for student borrowers. Also on Wednesday, the House Small Business Committee will hold a hearing (11:00 a.m.) on “Rebuilding America: Small Business Perspective” and the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee will hold a hearing (2:30 p.m.) entitled “Small Business and the American Worker.”

Thursday, the House Financial Services Committee will conduct a semi-annual review (10:00 a.m.) of the CFPB with Director Kathy Kraninger. A House Small Business sub-committee will hold a hearing (10:00 a.m.) entitled “Small but Mighty: A Review of the SBA Microloan Program,” and a House Appropriations sub-committee will hold a hearing (10:30 a.m.) on affordable housing production entitled “Stakeholder Perspectives: Affordable Housing Production.”

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has three days of meetings this week, including one today with the not-for-profit advisory committee that includes a discussion on credit losses.
