NJ Joins Annual Hike-the-Hike During CUNA’s GAC, Meetings Held with All 14 Delegation Offices

WASHINGTON – After wrapping up at the Wednesday morning session at CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference, leaders in attendance headed to Capitol Hill for meetings with their legislators. Fourteen professionals and volunteers from seven New Jersey credit unions joined NJCUL President/CEO David Frankil and Vice President of Corporate & Governmental Affairs Chris Abeel and CUNA Engagement Consultant Sterling Nowka in meetings with the offices of all 14 members of New Jersey’s delegation.

Participating professionals and volunteers received a legislative and regulatory advocacy briefing from the League and CUNA before hiking Capitol Hill.

Among the topics discussed were cyber/data security; tailored regulation, including Telephone Consumer Protection Act reform; 21st Century credit union governance; housing finance reform; cannabis banking; and NCUA’s treatment of taxi medallion loans.

The meetings gave credit union advocates an opportunity to continue building relations with delegation members and communicate credit unions priorities for the 116th Congress. This Hike was of particular importance because New Jersey’s delegation includes four new faces, the most significant turnover in recent memory.

On Capitol Hill, in the 116th Congress, there are now 101 new members of the House and 10 new Senators.
