Democratic Councilman to Seek GOP Nomination to Challenge Rep. Watson Coleman in CD12

Old Bridge Democratic Councilman Mark Razzoli announced Friday he has decided to run for Congress as a Republican, a decision that was “not made in haste, but a necessary one for anyone with a conscience” said Razzoli. “The Democratic Party that I knew has abandoned the American way of life, rule of law, and common sense, in favor of exaggerated, socialist ideology”, he added.

Razzoli will challenge Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) next year for the right to represent New Jersey’s 12th District in Congress. Razzoli has been a vocal critical of what he considers the congresswoman’s allegiance to the far-left socialists in Washington stating, “They continue to place the wellbeing of illegal immigrants above that of American citizens and people have had enough.”

While a challenge from the right should come as no surprise to the three-term incumbent Democrat, the announcement comes as more than one Democratic in the delegation is facing the potential for a primary challenge from the left. Two-term incumbent Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-5) already has an announced primary opponent who says, “he’s drifted too far to the middle.” Gottheimer is a founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.
