CUs Back Greg Murphy in Tuesday’s N.C. Special Election

The Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) and the Carolinas Credit Union League are supporting Dr. Greg Murphy (R) in today’s special election in North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District. Currently a state representative, Murphy is running for the seat left open by the passing of Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) in February.

Murphy recently met with staff from the Carolinas Credit Union League and Marine FCU CEO Jeff Clark at Marine FCU’s offices.

League and credit union staff discussed regulatory relief with Murphy who shared his own stance on the issues informed by his experience with the business side of healthcare. Murphy previously practiced as a urologic surgeon.

Murphy’s opponent is Democrat Allen Thomas, a former mayor of Greenville, N.C. who served from 2011 to 2017.

The Credit Union Legislative Action Council, or CULAC, is the CUNA/League system’s federal Political Action Committee (PAC). It enables credit union professionals, volunteers and members to pool individual contributions to support credit union-friendly candidates for federal office.
