Conference Committee to Begin Work on NDAA

The conference committee established to reconcile differences between the House and Senate versions of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 (NDAA) is set to hold its first meeting today. CUNA and the state leagues will continue work to oppose a provision (Section 2821) in the Senate’s version (S.1790)  of the bill that would treat big banks the same as local, not-for-profit credit unions when it comes to nominal leases on military bases.

Three New Jersey delegation members have been named to the conference committee, Reps. Andy Kim (D-3), Donald Norcross (D-1), Mikie Sherill (D-11) and Frank Pallone. Norcross and Sherrill serve on the House Armed Services Committee.

The NJCUL has communicated to the entire New Jersey delegation defense-related credit unions’ concerns with the Senate language, and has reached again to those named to the conference committee.

Last year, CUNA/League-system efforts led House and Senate conferees of the FY19 NDAA to drop the provision regarding bank leases on military installations.
