Final Election Results, Republicans Picked-up Three Legislative Seats

Democrats have emerged victorious in two state legislative races where Republicans held a narrow margin initially.

The race for the two Assembly seats in the 2nd District had been too close to call until after mail-in and provisional ballots were counted which gave incumbent Democrats Vince Mazzeo (D-2) and John Armato (D-2) just enough votes to win re-election.

In the end, the GOP picked-up three, not five, seats in the Legislature, one in a special Senate election and two in the Assembly.

The Democrats will still control both chambers when the new legislature convenes in January with a 25-15 majority in the Senate and a 52-28 majority in the Assembly.

This was the first time in a decade that Republicans pick-up seats in the Legislature.
