Your Marketing Company and Uncommn Present 'the Birds and the Bees of Great Marketing', More Highlights from NJCUL's 2018 Marketing Conference

NJCUL, YMC & Uncommn's Marketing Conference Gives CUs Hands-On Tools to Reach Members and Potential Members with Strategic Marketing Plans and Member Experience

HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – The New Jersey Credit Union League partnered with Your Marketing Company (YMC), an NJCUL Business Partner, and Uncommn for an insightful and interactive marketing conference Tuesday that navigated credit union marketing professionals and leaders through the process of crafting of a strategic marketing plan that accomplishes the goals of the credit union, making member experiences better on digital channels, marketing compliance, and how the winner of the 2017 NJCUL Alexander Kosobucki Marketing Award created their winning campaign.

New Jersey Credit Union League President/CEO David Frankil started the day off by welcoming the credit union leaders and marketing professionals in attendance at the 2018 Marketing Conference and introduced YMC and Uncommn, the conference sponsors, as well as the other conference speakers who led the discussions of the day.

YMC president and CEO Bo McDonald opened the conference by discussing how credit unions can be strategic about marketing by creating a strategic marketing plan that accomplishes the goals of the credit union. He conducted an interactive exercise, which opened the minds of those in attendance to discover what their true mission is and how it should drive the credit union’s marketing plan. By doing so, a strategic marketing plan will enable a credit union to help more members and people within the community. It will help you, the marketer, play a role in the long-term success of the credit union and to grow as a marketer and member of a CU team, he said.

McDonald shared three foundations of a successful, strategic marketing plan during his presentation. These foundations included:

  • Having a purpose for existing (mission and vision);
  • Understanding the financials and budget of your credit union; and
  • Having an up-to-date strategic plan, understanding the goals of it and how to play a part in it.

After McDonald's presentation, YMC’s Digital Director, Marne Franklin, spoke to attendees about how to make a credit union's member experience better by the use of digital channels. Member experience is usually thought of as offline, but Franklin shared how improved user interface and user experience creates more traffic, longer Web site visits, and more data, which would lead to better serving your current membership and reaching new members. Some helpful, online tools Franklin mentioned throughout her presentation were Google Search and Display, Facebook Pixel, and Google Analytics.

In the afternoon, NJCUL's very own Shared Compliance Manager Donna Pancoast went over how to remain compliant with your credit union's marketing and advertising campaigns both online and offline.

The conference finished up with a discussion from Linda Laubach, Director of Marketing, and Melanie Knowles, Assistant Marketing Manager, of South Jersey Federal Credit Union, who were the winners of the 2017 NJCUL Alexander Kosobucki Marketing Award for their successful auto loan promotion. Laubach and Knowles presented details from their credit union's winning campaign, including their marketing budget, vision, time frame, measurements, and results.
