CU Reality Check Coverage: Economic Outlook from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -  Brian Jones, Financial Economist at the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, gave attendees the statistics behind some of the trends during his Tuesday afternoon presentation “Economic Outlook from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.”

Looking at the US economy as a whole, Jones pointed out the impact consumer spending, investments, exports, and more on the expanding economy which is growing at an above-potential pace and is expected to continue throughout 2019.

Jones presented important data for all three hosting states (New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania), including joblessness, job gains, consumer inflation, home prices, and more.

Across the board on a national level, mortgage performance has returned to pre-crisis levels, Jones reported, and across the tri-state, mortgage quality has improved.

He then broke down the evolution of Federal Reserve officials’ expectations for key economic variables and the anticipated rise in rates through the spring of 2020.
