NJ Credit Union Reality Fair Program Visits Ocean County College for Another Semester of Financial Success

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – The New Jersey Credit Union Financial Reality Fair program visited students and faculty at Ocean County College yesterday, counseling 300 students on financial literacy.

This was the third year that Ocean County College made the Reality Fair program a co-curricular requirement for the college’s First Year Experience course. Eighteen classes gathered in the Health and Human Performance Center gymnasium for a brief orientation and then were set loose to build their hypothetical lifestyles, pretending they just graduated and have started working in an entry-level position in their field of study.

Some students managed to live within their means while others discovered some of their choices put them in the red. Each student reviewed their experience and choices with a financial counselor, though many of them knew where they went wrong in hindsight.

This is the seventh Reality Fair held at the main campus of the college.

The New Jersey Credit Union Foundation would like to thank all of the volunteers from Advanced Financial FCU, Credit Union of New Jersey, First Financial FCU, Lakehurst Naval FCU, Members 1st of NJ FCU, New Jersey Credit Union League, Raritan Bay FCU, and United Teletech Financial FCU, as well as Ocean County College students and staff who took the time to volunteer their time and support the program!
